PACKAGING AND EXTENDED
PRODUCER RESPONSIBILITY (EPR)
Extended producer responsibility for packaging
entered into force in Denmark on October 1st.
2025 as a result of EU legislation on the
management of packaging waste. Under the
scheme, companies that place packaging on
the Danish market assume 昀椀nancial and legal
responsibility for the packaging once it becomes
waste. The objective is to reduce packaging
waste volumes, increase recycling rates, and
support a more circular use of materials.
Denmark was one of the last EU members to
implement the EPR, but we were one of the 昀椀rst
to introduce a comprehensive environmental
grading scheme. As part of this development,
STOK was invited in December 2025 to
participate in the Ministry of the Environment’s
Corporate Forum, contributing to dialogue on
the implementation and further development of
producer responsibility.
In addition, STOK is actively engaged in the
Confederation of Danish Industry (DI), including
participation in the Packaging Industry working
group, with the aim of monitoring legislative
developments and contributing industry
perspectives.
This engagement enables STOK to address
upcoming requirements and preparations at an
early stage and to share knowledge and
experience across the market. STOK Group has
established a shared knowledge and
coordination setup based in Denmark, where
dedicated employees work with regulatory
understanding, data collection, system support,
and internal advisory services. The Danish
entities are supported in their practical handling
of producer responsibility through shared
guidelines and processes, while other country
sites may draw on sparring and advisory support
from the Danish EPR colleagues.

As part of this work, the relevant Danish
companies have been registered in the producer
responsibility register and af昀椀liated with
collective schemes that handle formal
reporting to the authorities. Ongoing efforts
focus on strengthening data quality and system
support, including the collection of material data
from suppliers and further development of
internal IT systems, to ensure that requirements
related to environmental grading, volume
reporting, and documentation can be handled
correctly in Denmark.
Extended producer responsibility entails
signi昀椀cant administrative and operational
requirements, both for STOK and for the Group’s
customers. STOK therefore also focuses on acting
as an advisory partner, sharing knowledge on
regulations, interpretation, and practical
implementation with customers. This includes
internal training for sales, customer service, and
procurement functions, as well as ongoing
dialogue and support in relation to customers’
own obligations.
STOK fully supports the intentions behind the
legislation and participates constructively in
dialogue on the design of the scheme and its
practical implications, including through relevant
industry and governmental forums. Work with
extended producer responsibility is regarded as
an ongoing area of development that will
continue to evolve in line with changes in
legislation, market expectations, and the Group’s
geographical presence.
